General
Description - This is a wonderful trip for those who enjoy observing wildlife. The return trip is about 8 miles with 7 locks. This section of the canal is not navigable to canal boats.
The main obstacles are the reed beds which obstruct the canal. The two main obstructions are south of Coates Bridge near the electricity pylons and between the last two locks. This later stretch is completly impassable and takes about 10 minutes to portage. The towpath makes this no problem.
Canal head is a delightful picnic spot with car parking and a pub.
Most suitable for two or more to make the portages easier.
