Canoe Days Out

Staffordshire - River Trent - Armitage to Kings Bromley

This page was submitted by Jim Thornton (E-mail this submitter)
How to get there - Leave Armitage on the A513 to Rugely and park at the Plum Pudding bar and brasserie.

For those with SatNav the postcode is WS15 4AZ.

Get a map with driving directions to start or end (enter the postcode of your starting point at A)

Suggested Launch Site - From the opposite end of the car park to the restaurant there is a grassy slope to the Trent and Mersey canal.

General Description - Paddle east on the canal for 1/2 mile. Just before it takes a right turn land left and portage the canoes down a sloping path under the railway line and over the Trent footbridge. Launch onto the river from the left bank just downstream of the bridge.

If you plan to stop at Kings Bromley (4 miles), take the right fork after about three miles and portage the dry weir left after 3.5 miles. The small weir carrying water is not normally shootable. (map of getout) This trip can easily be combined with Kings Bromley to Alrewas.

If going on to Alrewas (8 miles), take the left fork at three miles. This carries more water and has no obstructions.. Land right at Willow Brook Farm campsite. (Tel. 01283 790217). This lovely (but noisy) site is unmarked from the river, but the best landing spot is just at the end of the first long right hand bend after passing under the A38.
