Canoe Days Out

Photo Album for Cambridgeshire - River Great Ouse - Hemingford Grey to Brampton (& return) by Graham Watson

The view upstream is inviting
The best portage point is just around to the right of the lock
Upstream of the lock
Turn left down Cooks Backwater
Portage
The first bridge downstream of Brampton Mill is the railway bridge
The river is very peaceful between Brampton and Godmanchester
The first thing you see as you get near to Huntingdon is probably the ugliest (and noisiest) bridge which holds up the A14
The stretch in front of the Huntingdon river frontage is fairly bland, but once past it the scenery starts to improve
Especially around Hartford which has a rather nice church
I think this was the only angler we saw all day and we were only passed by about 3 motor craft
Probably the most picturesque part of the journey between Houghton and Hemmingford Grey
Back into Hemmingford Grey (the canoe access point is just behind the canal boat on the right)
The last trip loaded was Melbourne to Cottingwith Lock via the Pocklington Canal, by Alan Brannon on 2nd December 2007.
