August 2017. I parked in the public car park in station road, the canoe access was from town meadows. I canoed upstream, but had to stop before the weir due to shallows and blockage by fallen trees and vegetation. I then had an enjoyable canoe down to the weir at Hudds Mill. There is a small grassed area on public access land where you can portage your canoe on the south bank just above the boom protecting boats from the weir. I then canoed back upstream. Not much current, but large areas of surface weed. With improved portage points this could be a great canoe touring river from Stamford to Spalding, and I have emailed the Environment Agency suggesting this.

I enjoyed a fun/strenuous paddle upstream from the Stamford Meadows car park when the water was very high/flooding. Obvious hazards from strainers but going upstream you at least know what you are getting in to. Great exercise in reading the water as you won't go anywhere if you get it wrong. Weir 100m or so upstream from the bridge/shallows pictured in this guide, serious stopper best avoided at high water.
