Canoe Days Out

Somerset - River Brue - Westhay

This page was submitted by OLD MAN (E-mail this submitter)
How to get there - From Junction 22 of the M5 take the A38 south to Highbridge where you turn east to Wedmore along the B3139. At the church in Wedmore, turn right onto the B3131 and at the mini roundabout take the first exit and immediate right turn following signs for Westhay. After the road doglegs left and right park before the bridge and take the short footpath to the put in.

Suggested Launch Site - Launch from the obvious place west of the bridge on the north bank.

General Description - Typical Somerset Levels. No portages, no views, no pubs, very few trees - we just had a very pleasant paddle together in very fine conditions with a few stops to eat and drink.

Half way to the turn round point is the north Drain pumping Station which makes a convenient point to stop.

This part of the Brue formed the Glastobury Canal prior to its abandonment in 1854 - see the Access Map.
